I disagree, to an extent. In a perfect world it would not be necessary. However, 'polls' are contests and people are competitive.

Working proxies are not easy to find ~ most of the low hanging fruit is banned. Besides, someone who is a motivated supporter can contribute, within the rules.

That said ~ lemme clue you in on what's been happening on page one at TopSite:

The Monster gaming site has risen in less than two months to the #2 spot ~ he could have easily been #1 ~ but he checked Lop out and must have admired the spirit there and pledged not to rise above Lop in the poll. (He also must have seen plenty of discussion that a gaming site being top forum on a conspiracy board made the poll worthless...but I digress.)

Per that intention, he could not rise unless Lop also rose ~ so he spammed votes to Lop. To be clear ~ his 'offer' of free votes was REJECTED ~ Lop voters preferred the hits to rise also. (Monster's bot only does votes ~ you can see the disparity in his site's vote/hit ratio.)

That is not to say there were not some 'genuine' voters for Lop using proxy IPs ~ there were and are ~ Monster is not doing all the lifting by any means. Remember, you can vote every 12 hours, so the number of voters can potentially have two counts daily.

Any how, after Santa started crapping down the chimney, the hit ratio was problematic after that point and it has taken some creativity, ingenuity and a dedicated team of a few individuals to correct it. (legally)

How is Monster doing it? He said he was not using proxies. If true, that means he has access to hundreds of legit IP's and is using a script to vote ~ or perhaps he owns/rents a webbot? I dunno, but he is doing no one any favors.

Just thought I'd set the record straight. No one at Lop, to my knowledge, is playing out of bounds.

I ain't mad atchya....and I'm full aware that people are using proxies to get the vote count up....hell...I saw one "conspiracy" site go up over 600 votes in less than an hour.....and their hit tally stayed the same....I was sent links to posts of folks telling people how to do it....the poll is not a big deal to me as I'm not obsessed with votes...or traffic...or hits....nor desperate or dependent upon ad revenue.....if I were...I have the funds and avenues to get ION more than enough notoriety.....but that's not the intent of ION.....quality vs. quantity? I think we all know the answer to that question......from the beginning....I said ION is not in competition with anyone....and that remains the same today...and will in the future....ION is not only about the quality of it's content...but the quality of it's members most of all.
