There was an unscheduled meeting this morning discussing Iran, in Virginia. I have no idea who were there, or what came of it, but have been trying to get an update. Maybe Wingsprint will know.

Report says U.S., Israel Plan Iran Attack

By UPI

WASHINGTON, Oct. 9 (UPI) -- The United States and Israel are considering a surgical strike on Iran's nuclear enrichment facilities, Foreign Policy magazine says.

Based on a source reported to be close to discussions between the sides, the report published Monday maintains the strike may only take "a couple of hours" involving a "day or two," and would be conducted using "primarily bombers and drone support."

If such a strike is carried out it would set the Iranian nuclear program back many years, the report said and would do so without civilian casualties.

Benefits of such a strike would be regional, Foreign Policy says.

It quotes an unnamed advocate saying the outcome would be "transformative" -- "saving Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, reanimating the peace process, securing the (Persian) Gulf, sending an unequivocal message to Russia and China, and assuring American ascendancy in the region for a decade to come."

Such a strike cannot be conducted by Israel alone and would require the involvement of the United States, "whether acting alone or in concert with Israel and others," the report says.

The report maintains that taking into account the progress made between Israel and the U.S. administration in recent weeks, such a strike would be the easiest way for President Barack Obama to defuse Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney's critique on Iran.

"It's not the size of the threatened attack but the likelihood that it will actually be made, that makes a military threat a useful diplomatic tool. And perhaps a political one, too," the report says.

Massive U.S Israel Air Drill Set For This Month

The US and Israel will commence the largest-ever joint air defense drill of its kind in Israel on October 21, an army source said on Tuesday.

The exercise, named Austere Challenge 12, was originally scheduled for last spring but was postponed due to regional tensions with Iran.

On October 14, large numbers of American soldiers are expected to begin arriving in Israel, where they will set up aerial defense positions on Israeli territory and on US Navy vessels off the Israeli coastline.

The three-week drill will simulate various missile defense scenarios, and is expected to end with a live-fire interception of a decoy incoming Patriot missile.

Israel drops attack plans as Iran diverts uranium (10/10/12)

Israel has abandoned plans for an imminent attack on Iran's nuclear facilities after new intelligence said Tehran had diverted part of its uranium stockpile to a medical research reactor.

Defence officials told Israel's Haaretz newspaper that Israeli intelligence had gathered evidence that Iran had used part of its enriched uranium stockpile.

The quantity of material involved was enough to delay efforts to produce a nuclear weapon by eight months.

Israel Faces Hizbollah Threat Over Iran

A strike on Iran's nuclear facilities would be a "gamble" with Hizbollah, according to Israel's ex-missile defence chief.

By Sam Kiley, Middle East Correspondent

Israel runs the risk of significant casualties from Hizbollah rockets fired in retaliation for a much-threatened attack on Iran, the former head of the Jewish state's Missile Defence Agency has warned.

Arieh Herzog, who ran Israel's protection strategy against rockets and missiles for 12 years before stepping down in January, told Sky News that the Iran-backed movement based in southern Lebanon had increased its capabilities since the disastrous war with Israel in 2006.

"The rockets used in 2006 were of limited range," said Mr Herzog. "They had a few thousand short-range, and some medium-range rockets - maybe 10,000 - and around half were used against Israel.

"Since then they have around five-times more, longer-range capacity and they may have even better accuracy.

i missed this thread totally...yes it ties in very much so

October 21st...timely

When you see that in order to produce, you need to obtain permission from men who produce nothing

When you see that men get rich more easily by graft than by work, and your laws no longer protect you against them, but protect them against you

You may know that your society is doomed
